Name: Lydia Steinke
Hometown: Grande Prairie, Alberta
High School: Peace Wapiti Academy
At what age did you start playing your sport? What drew you to the game? I always enjoyed the track and field events in junior high school but became more focused on running in Grade 8. I quickly realized that I was more an endurance athlete than a sprinter.
What is your fondest memory of your sport? I was once thrown into a 4x400m relay at the last minute. We ended up winning and breaking a local zone record.
Any pre or post-race rituals that you would be willing to share? How do you prepare? When at the start line, I do a few tuck-jumps just before the race begins. After the race, I go straight for the complimentary cookie.
What are your future goals? I would like to run for the College as long as I am eligible, as well as complete my personal bucket list of races around the world.
From Head Coach Bill Corcoran:
Any special game moments, stats you’d like to share? Lydia is a multiple zone champion in both cross-country and track and field who has trained with the Peace Country Wolves Athletics Club since Grade 9.
What does this player bring to the dynamics of the team? Lydia is hard-working and determined. The kid has no quit in her.
