GRANDE PRAIRIE – Grande Prairie Regional College’s (GPRC) Office Administration Program is offering a new Legal Administration Certificate and updating the popular Dental Office Certificate to better meet the needs and demands of learners in the region.
“Our Office Administration certificates are offered to learners through face-to-face instruction and video-conferencing,” says Bill Corcoran, Chairperson Business and Office Administration.
GPRC Office Administration currently offers five certificates to learners with the newly added Legal Administration Certificate, including a general Office Administration, a Dental Office Certificate, Basic Bookkeeping Certificate and Oil and Gas Office Certificate. All of the Office Administration programs will be available in September 2017.
“GPRC is so excited to be able to offer more opportunities for our learners to customize their focus in office administration,” says Susan Bansgrove, Vice-President of Academics and Research.
The newly added Legal Administration Certificate is designed to help learners achieve their dream career of working in a legal office.
“Students master legal vocabulary, legal office procedures and legal relations,” says Sharron Barr, GPRC Instructor who has decades of successful teaching experience in the Office Administration program. “Graduates of this certificate will be able to enter the work force as legal assistants, legal secretaries and court house office support just to name a few.”
The popular Dental Office Certificate has been upgraded for learners to complete their studies in 18-weeks, instead of one year. This certificate is designed to prepare learners for their vital role in the health care field by managing clients and the flow of information in a fast-paced office environment.
“We are so excited to be able to offer this program in 18-weeks,” says Sharron Barr, GPRC Office Administration Instructor. “We are taking the steps to meet the high demand of the program and ensure all students who want to learn about the profession are able to do so without having to worry about taking a year off.”
All Office Administration Certificates can include an 120 hour work experience component, which provides students with the opportunity to consolidate previous classroom learnings in real-world work settings.
“The work experience placement is definitely something our students look forward to,” says Sharron Barr, GPRC Office Administration Instructor. “It allows them to gain more confidence in their knowledge and skills before they go out into the workforce on their own.”
